Murray Man, Husky and QLD! What a weekend

Well it was a huge weekend for the AP10 team across Australia! Perhaps the biggest one yet!

Murray Man – South Australia

We had 3 NSW athletes travel over – Phil Catchpole, Dave Mainwearing and myself, to joint the SA natives Dom Whitbourne, David Marks, Dan and Anna Kelly and Brenda Munro, giving us a 8 strong team. All the athletes had awesome days, which you can rarely say!

Having had some foot problems over winter I downgraded the distance and raced the Olympic distance. I decided with limited running to  push quite hard in the swim and bike and managed to open up a decent lead, which I held on to in the run. I took out the overall win by 7minutes in the end, which I really enjoyed after a tough winter and having my parents there was even better! Anna Kelly had a great race, showing that her changes in training and preparation are paying off for her! Phil Catchpole is still recovering from an unfortunate accident on the bike recently, but had a great race over coming some ongoing shoulder problems, but still finishing strong and great to see him back on the race course!

In the Full distance (2/80/20), Dave Mainwearing took the overall win! Dave came into T2 with Matty White, who has won the race for the past 4 years. He then set about running as comfortably as he needed to in order to take the win out, but was never going to be super easy with an athlete the caliber of Matty. Dave finished with a 3min win in the end and is now in training for Forster. Dan Kelly put together a great race start to finish, running a huge PB for him, on top of some big improvements in the other disciplines! David Marks hadn’t been able to do the training he had wanted over the winter, but looked very strong throughout and finished very well! Brenda Munro had over come a broken ankle earlier in the year to finish her first 1/2 distance race well and ended up 2nd in her age group! Dom Whitebourne had also had a tough couple of months leading in, but  nonetheless had a huge race, finishing 4th in her age group!!

Huskisson

Meanwhile in Husky the Olympic distance race saw some great results for the team, in torrential rain!
James Davy had an impressive return to racing, leading from start to finish and comfortably taking the overall win!

Scott Krauss had an impressive debut in Olympic distance racing, placing 20th overall and 6th in his age group. Jon Elvy continues to improve and get stronger each race he does, finishing 4th in his age group! Kellie, Banger and Bec all finished within a stones throw of each other, all digging deep and finishing very strong across the board! Bec took the win in her age group, as did Angela Besard, with Kellie coming 3rd and Banger finishing a close 4th! Simone had a great day and Leisa had another awesome race, only her second triathlon ever and she really has found her calling!

Meanwhile on the Gold Coast, Shane Barrie raced an aquathon as part of a big day of training. He took the overall win also!

As a side, this weekend saw 4 Overall wins for the AP10 team, all of which are growing Moustaches for Movember! There is something in the “Magic Mo Power” I believe!

Great work to all of the team on your efforts and as always, thank you to our supporters; Dextro, Aquashop and Champion System for their ongoing support and also to the families of the athletes, who without their support achievements like this would not be possible!
